Back to my Sichuan series, sharing a few photos I took in and around the beautiful city of Dujiangyan.
The city itself is famous for its ancient irrigation system which was first constructed around 256 BC. (More info here: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/sichuan/chengdu/dujiangyan.htm ) I was so excited that we might be able to see the last day’s happenings of the ‘Releasing Water Festival’ in April, but all we got was a huge mass of celebrating people, not even a glimpse of the show. Turned out, it was accessible from the other entrance of the heritage park… 🙁 We approached from the West Pass. My husband can’t really bear the crowds so we ended up rambling around the surrounding mountains which I can warmly recommend to anyone. There’s a beautiful temple on the top and it is not a difficult climb as they also built an escalator for the elderly and the lazy ones to get there. 🙂 Crossing the Anlan (‘husband and wife’) Cable Bridge is a must.
When the night has fallen, there’s still much to see in town: just head back to the old town and watch the beautiful light show of the lit up buildings and bridges. And certainly, you have to try some local food, you will find something cheap still awesome in the backstreets.
