Bamboo Sea

Bamboo Sea

I always dreamed of seeing a beautiful bamboo forest once in my life. This dream came true in 2014 when we travelled to one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Sichuan in China.

So we took the one and only bus to the Bamboo Sea from Chengdu which was almost empty, maybe 5 passengers (including us). That was a bit suspicious but we tried to keep calm and enjoy our 6 hour journey to the south – while watching Journey to the West, haha. The exciting part came when the bus driver asked us to get down in a town somewhere around Yibin, pointing at a taxi to change to continue our trip. First, we totally freaked out as we had no idea where we actually were, spoke no Chinese, and someone just wanted us to get into a stranger’s car… Then we saw two happy American tourists getting out of that car, patting the driver’s shoulder friendly, seemingly had a good time with that guy so what else could we do? We got into the car and asked him to head to Shunan Zhuhai… He was kindly showing us around the national park. Fortunately, he had a translator app on his smart phone so we could communicate quite effectively. He asked us where our hotel was. Well, according to our previous experiences in the very popular national park, Jiuzhaigou (where people literally storming the bus with their hotel offers when it stops), we had none… Actually, not speaking their language (yet), we were unable to find an accommodation on the Chinese websites… So this man kindly offered his help, said he knows a very clean and nice place to stay for a reasonable price – which was actually in the middle of the Bamboo Sea. Yay! 🙂 Besides, he offered to be our guide for the 2 days we spent there.
